While there are clearly many promises of development for the poor in rural areas of developing countries by the United Nations Development Programs, World Bank and other international donor agencies, it is not well acknowledged how far such initiatives have reached the poor. The typical top-down need analysis by donors as well as NGOs sometimes ignores what the people affected by poverty actually need. Therefore, such development interventions suffer from both operational and financial unsustainability. Now, it has become important to address what the needs of the poor and their ability to afford essential services.
Rural Emancipation Society (RES), Bangladesh is designed to meet the needs of the poor in a rural area of a densely populated poor Southeast Asian country, Bangladesh. Our approach is to identify the needs and then provide some alternative solutions for development. This organization is based on practical experiences learned from a particular rural area of Bangladesh.
Initiated in 2006, the organization is working for the poor, needy and destitute men, women and families in Bangladesh. The organization is of focusing on poverty alleviation, education, health, hygiene and environmental conditions. Since its inception, RES is helping families including aged, divorced, women with disability, families and childrens of daily laborers.

​Latest project
​
The poverty alleviation of rural women in Bangladesh through employment generation is the latest project of RES. The project is implemented through poultry farm which provides supports to the community in various ways including creation of job opportunities. The profit of the farm is distributed to the poor to support their basic needs. This project improves women’s economic and social conditions. When women earn money, it helps them to get better livelihood, health services and send their children to school which ultimately lead to improved community development and prosperous society with a future.
